Dequalinium Chloride (CAS-RN 522-51-0) has antiseptic and disinfectant properties. It is a topical antimicrobial agent used to treat mouth infections and in wound dressings. It is also applied to treat local vaginal infections, such as vulvo-vaginal candidiasis, bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis. Dequanilium has a multiple mechanism of action: it breaks the cell permeability of the bacteria, inhibits bacterial cell metabolism, stops bacterial protein synthesis, and also affects the microorganism’s DNA.
