Sustainable Innovation in Fine Chemicals: Solar Energy and Biorefinery for a Greener Industry

As part of its ongoing transformation towards more efficient and environmentally responsible manufacturing, Lebsa has implemented two key initiatives that reinforce its long-standing commitment to sustainability in the fine chemicals sector: a high-performance photovoltaic system and an advanced biorefinery for the treatment of industrial wastewater.

Funded through the Next Generation EU program, the solar energy system now enables the company’s Cornellà facility to partially cover its energy demand through renewable sources. In parallel, Lebsa is developing a pioneering biorefinery designed to recover valuable nutrients and produce reclaimed water, significantly reducing the environmental footprint of its operations once fully operational.

This dual technological approach, one already in place, the other in progress, not only supports a cleaner, more efficient production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), but also aligns with the core principles of the circular economy and anticipates the future regulatory and environmental demands of the pharmaceutical industry.

These initiatives reinforce Lebsa’s position as a European-based manufacturer of niche APIs, combining quality, regulatory compliance and sustainability. At a time when supply chain resilience and responsible production are more critical than ever, Lebsa continues to deliver on its mission to help improve global health through excellence in fine chemicals.

Because excellence in APIs is not only measured by compliance and performance, but also by the positive impact generated on our environment. At Lebsa, innovation is green by conviction.
